Play Dough Lesson

Materials:
spelling words from group A or B, depending on how you want to set it up
play dough (store bought or homemade)
sheet protector

Steps for Group B Words:
Using the group B spelling words works the best so there is plenty of room for the play dough letters.

  1. Place a spelling word from group B inside of the sheet protector. The sheet protector protects the word and you can use it multiple times.
  2. Have your child roll the play dough out into long snake shapes and lay it out on the letters one at a time saying the letter as he is making them. Using the sheet protector, the play dough temporarily sticks, so he can correctly position it for each letter.

Steps for Group A Words:

  1. Place a spelling word from group A inside of the sheet protector.
  2. Your son will need to roll the play dough out into very thin strips for this size word.
  3. Have your child lay the thin strips out on the letters one at a time saying the letter as he is making them. Using the sheet protector, the play dough temporarily sticks, so he can correctly position it for each letter.

Re-enforcement Activities

Some children like to also roll the play dough out flat, and using their fingertip, write the letters in the play dough.
