Finding Words Within Words Lesson

Materials:
paper
pencil
spelling words from group A
graph paper PDF

  1. Take a spelling word from group A.  Ask your child to try and find as many words as he can using the letters in the spelling word.
  2. Have him write the words on a piece of paper.
  3. You might want to put a 3 letter minimum for the words he finds to make it more of a challenge.
  4. For instance: in the word sparrow are the words – arrow, row, wrap…

This is a great way for your son to play with words and expand his vocabulary.

If your child is having difficulty, you might try writing the word on graph paper, then cut out each letter of the word.  This way your child can physically move the letters to try and find new words.
