Alphabet Pasta
(part of the Spelling Practice Unit)

using alphabet pasta to practice spelling

Using uncooked alphabet pasta to have your child spell his spelling words will feel more like a treasure hunt than work. It would be like putting together a puzzle looking for the correct letters with all the pasta mixed together. Also, it is great for fine motor development.

Alphabet Pasta Lesson

Materials:
box of alphabet pasta
glue (optional)
paper (optional)
spelling words from group A

  1. Lay some uncooked pasta on the table.
  2. Using the group A spelling words as a guide have your son find the letters to spell the words.
  3. He can glue the pasta down on paper or just line up all the pasta words on the table so you can double check them. If the pasta is not glued down, you can reuse the pasta again the next time.

Some children are overwhelmed if you put too many letters out at one time. For these children, I find what works best is to find the letters ahead of time and mix in a few extra letters.
