Write a Story
(part of the Spelling Practice Unit)

write a story to practice the spelling words

This is an opportunity for your child to create a story using all of his spelling words. Think about all the imaginative stories that your son already shares with you. Now he can do it with an added purpose.

Write a Story Lesson

Materials:
pencil
journal paper (download for $1)
spelling words from group A
highlighter

  1. Have your child write a story using all of his current spelling words.
  2. Explain to your child that all the current spelling words need to be included in the story.  Have the spelling words handy from Group A as a reminder of the words that he needs to use.
  3. When he is finished writing his story, have him highlight his spelling words so that he knows that they are included in the story and he can double check the spelling.  This allows you to find the words quickly and you can double check the spelling as well.

The stories can be as imaginative and funny as he would like it to be. The only restrictions I have on stories are: they can't be violent and they have to be written in complete sentences. So the skies the limit, he can do almost anything!
