Sand Paper Letter Rubbings
(part of the Spelling Practice Unit)

sand paper letter rubbings

This is similar to practicing spelling words in sand but your child will actually be running his finger gently over the letters made of sandpaper. It is a great tool for kinesthetic learners.

Make the Sandpaper Letters

With your son make your own sandpaper letters.

  1. Take a piece of sandpaper. Draw out a stencil for the letters and cut them out. Cookie cutter letters work well for tracing on the sandpaper.
  2. Glue the letters onto heavy cardboard so they won't curl.
  3. You'll want to have extra vowels, and the letters t, b, l, s, d and any other letters you find your son uses frequently in his spelling words.
