Determining Your
Child's Dominant Hand

If you find the video helpful, consider donating $1.

For years children were forced to use their right hand to write with even when they were more comfortable using their left hand. People are more aware of respecting individual differences and allowing a child to determine which hand he or she feels more comfortable using.

Determine Your Child's Dominant Hand

hold pencil out for you child to reach

When your child wants to draw or write:

  1. lay the crayon on the table and have her reach for it
  2. or hold it out to your child

That way you can see which hand she uses to reach for the crayon. The hand your child uses to reach for it is probably her dominant hand and her writing hand.   It is important for your child to use the hand that she is the most comfortable with.
