Coconuts
(part of Discovering Dinosaurs Unit)

homemade coconut

You may want to take your child to the grocery store and point out a coconut.  Have him hold one.  Ask him how it feels and have him describe it.   What does he think the inside looks like?  You might want to purchase one so your child can help crack it open and let him see for himself!

How to Make Coconuts

Materials:
brown paper lunch bags
string
filling (plastic shopping bags, crumpled newspaper)

  1. Fill the brown paper bag with the plastic shopping bags or crumpled newspaper until it is the right size and tie with string.  Make the string long enough to attach to the palm tree.
  2. Attach some of the coconuts to the palm trees and the others you can scatter around the base of the trees.
